In Perth, WA, the state building regulator inspected wet-area waterproofing in 23 buildings in 2021. It went looking after complaints from home owners about leaking wet areas, particularly showers, and found only 58 per cent of the points it checked met the standard. That's why our bathroom tiling and retiling starts underneath: waterproofing to AS 3740, photographed, and only then the tiles.
We're a local bathroom tiler based on Marshall Road in Malaga, covering 20 suburbs from Clarkson and Joondalup down to Fremantle. Every quote is itemised and in writing, with start and finish dates you can plan around. The work carries a 12-month workmanship warranty.
What does a bathroom remodeller do in Perth, WA?
A bathroom remodeller in Perth, WA updates how a bathroom looks and works. Perth Tiling Co takes on the tiling side of that job: stripping the old tiles, waterproofing floors and shower walls to AS 3740, and laying new floor and wall tiles. Plumbing, vanities and electrical work are for other trades.
Bathroom Tiling From $6,500, Waterproofing Included
The $6,500 is our starting price for laying a bathroom, GST included, and AS 3740 waterproofing is part of it. Two things sit outside it: removing the existing tiles, and the tiles themselves.
Perth homeowners compare tiling quotes by the square metre and want to know what's in them. Your written quote is itemised, so you can see what it covers and what it doesn't before anything starts. A larger room, a more detailed layout or a feature wall moves the price up from the starting figure. The instant estimator gives you a price range for your own bathroom in a few minutes.

Bathroom Retiling
Bathroom retiling means stripping the room back to its base, then waterproofing and tiling it again from scratch. It suits the bathroom that has done its time, and Perth has plenty. Noranda was built in stages from 1976 to the mid-1980s. Dianella grew mostly in the 1960s boom. Joondalup grew fast from the 1980s through to 2006.
The national housing code only gained wet-area construction details in 1996, so many of those original bathrooms were built before today's standard. Nobody knows exactly what sits under old tiles until they come off. Structural issues are assessed at the site visit, and we won't tile over one, because new tiles on a base that's moving won't last.

Shower Retiling
Bubbling paint on the wall behind a shower is the classic warning sign. When the WA building regulator surveyed strata managers, bubbling paint and deteriorating plaster topped the list of damage from failed wet-area waterproofing. A shower retile deals with the cause. We strip the recess back, rebuild the slope that runs water to the drain (tilers call it the fall), lay a new membrane, then tile.
The current housing code wants shower walls waterproofed to a height of 1800 mm, and any floor with a floor waste sloped towards it. WA adopted those rules on 1 May 2023. We photograph the membrane before tiling, so you can see for yourself how far up the wall it goes.
If your shower is leaking now, a full retile is the fix we offer. We don't do regrouting, spray-on sealers or leak repairs on their own. One homeowner on an Australian renovation forum summed up a sprayed-on fix: "It worked for less than a year."

Ensuite Tiling
Ensuite tiling follows the same steps as the main bathroom: strip back, AS 3740 membrane, photos, then tile. Plenty of Perth homes have both rooms. In Ocean Reef, 80.5 per cent of homes have four or more bedrooms (ABS 2021). A main bathroom and an ensuite done together is a common job there, and your quote can give each room its own dates.
Upstairs ensuites and apartments need extra care, because a leak usually shows first in the room below. In Scarborough, nearly two in three homes are townhouses, villas or apartments. Landgate's guidance is that strata owners typically need to ask or tell their strata company before renovating. Where approval is needed, the application asks for the materials, the method and a work schedule. An itemised written quote with dates gives you most of that.

Waterproofing Photographed Before We Tile
AS 3740 is the Australian Standard for waterproofing domestic wet areas, and it's included in every bathroom, shower and ensuite we tile. The trouble with waterproofing is that it disappears under the tiles. In the same 2021 inspections, the WA regulator found membranes were properly protected after installation at just 1 of 11 points checked.
So the membrane is photographed before tiling starts, and the photos go into the records pack you receive at handover. The same membrane-first approach carries over to balcony tiling, and to laundry tiling wherever the laundry is a wet area.

Bathroom Tiling Questions From Perth Homeowners
How much does bathroom tiling cost in Perth?
From $6,500 for laying, GST included, with AS 3740 waterproofing in that price. Removing the old tiles and the tiles themselves are extra. The final figure depends on the room's size, layout and tile choice, and your itemised written quote confirms it before any work starts.
Can you retile an original 1980s bathroom in Noranda?
Yes. Much of Noranda was built between 1976 and the mid-1980s, so original bathrooms there are now 40 to 50 years old. We strip them back to the base, waterproof to AS 3740 and retile. Structural issues are assessed at the site visit, and we won't tile over one.
Can you retile just the shower in Joondalup?
Yes. A shower retile strips the recess back, lays a new membrane and photographs it before any tile goes on. Many Joondalup homes were built between the 1980s and 2006, so their original showers are due. A shower-only job is quoted from your photos or a site visit.
Do I need strata approval to retile in Scarborough?
Usually you'll need to ask or tell your strata company first. Landgate says owners typically can't renovate a lot without seeking permission from, or informing, the strata company, and each scheme has its own by-laws. Our itemised quote with dates gives you the scope and schedule to include.
Do you do full bathroom renovations with plumbing?
No. Perth Tiling Co does bathroom tiling, retiling and the AS 3740 waterproofing that goes with them. Plumbing, vanities, electrical work and structural repairs need other trades, so your quote covers the tiling and waterproofing only.
How do I know the waterproofing was done right?
You'll see it. The membrane is photographed before any tile goes down, and the photos go into the records pack you get at handover. The work is done to AS 3740, the Australian Standard for domestic wet areas, and carries our 12-month workmanship warranty.
